Alliances

An alliance is the union of different players to a collective organization.

Thereby each player has control over his own membership, but an alliance also has control over its members. This means that:

If a player wants to become a member of an alliance, he has to be sent an invitation from a current member first. If the player accepts this invitation, he'll become a member of the alliance. However, the invitation can also be withdrawn by the alliance before the player accepts it.

If the player is already a member of an alliance, he can swap alliances by accepting the invitation from a foreign alliance. Alternatively he can also leave his current alliance at any time. Or the alliance can throw him out without asking.

Benefits

As a member of an alliance, you have the following advantages:

  • Alliance forums for improved communication
  • Overview of attacks from or on alliance members on the alliance pages and the flag attack warnings
  • Member list (with an overview of points, rank, rank position, number of settlements and activity status)
  • Marking of all alliance settlements on the map (green)
  • As soon as you belong to an alliance, you can define the 'Alliance member titles' yourself. This title will be listed next to your player name (in highscores...).
  • Other non-mechanical advantages like:
    • mutual protection and support during battle
    • Organization, to achieve even bigger goals
    • get to know new players in the game

Alliance forum

In KingsAge, every alliance gets its own alliance forum that the alliance can manage itself. This forum is completely controlled by the alliance and can only be seen by alliance members. This allows the members to get to know one another and communicate with one another. The forum also has to be manage and moderated by the alliance itself.

Manage alliance

The alliance can be managed by different members. The possible actions each member can take depend on the rights of their respective rank. You can find details about the rights in the section on 'Managing members'.

Found an alliance

If a player wants to found a new alliance, he cannot already belong to an alliance. To found an alliance, the player simply has to click on the 'Alliance' link and enter a name and an alliance tag. Both must have individual descriptions and the tag cannot contain more than 6 characters. Once you have done this, the new alliance is founded and has one member: The founder, who will have the 'council of elders' title.

Change data

Once the alliance has been founded, the members, depending on their rights, can enter different data or change data. The following settings are available:

  • Description: This somewhat longer text serves as a public information board for all players. The text can be modified with BB-Codes and can be viewed by every player, even non-members. To change it, the player must have diplomacy rights.
  • Name: The alliance name can also be changed afterwards, but has the same restrictions as a newly founded alliance.
  • Tag: Can also be changed at will.
  • An emblem can also be added to the alliance. The emblem is a simple graphic that is displayed on the alliance profile. It can have a maximum size of 256 kByte and the picture must have a JPG, GIF or PNG format.
  • The homepage of the alliance can be entered if you wish. It is also openly accessible information.
  • If an alliance has an IRC-channel, it can also be entered. However, this info is only for alliance members.
  • You can enter a link to the external forum of the alliance with the external forum link. This link replaces the normal link to the KingsAge forum. This info is also just for alliance members.
  • Similar to the overview text, the internal messages are a large, formatable text field. However, the messages are only displayed to members of the alliance. Only the alliance leader can change this text.

Manage members

A large part of managing the alliance is administering own members, for which the following means are available:

  • The alliance can throw existing members out of the alliance.
  • Individual members can be assigned to ranks directly. (At least one of the members must be in the council of elders) If a point ranking is assigned directly (see below), then it will be activated independently of the normally required point score for this player. To cancel a rank assignment, a player is not given a rank. This means that the system will automatically assign the right point rank.
  • Players that are not members of the alliance yet can be invited.
  • Pending invitations can be withdrawn.

Administer Ranks

Aside from administering members, the managing and modification of the individual alliance ranks also plays a big part. The ranks are automatically created when an alliance is founded, but they can also be changed. Every rank has its own determinable characteristics:

  • Rank type: These are divided into point ranking or special ranking. The point ranking depends on the player's amount of points. Special ranking is directly distributed.
  • Points: Only play a part in point rankings and display the minimum amount of points that you need to distribute the rank.
  • Name: The name of the rank.
  • A rank's rights are split into different individual yes/no questions, which determine what the player is allowed to do within an alliance:
    • Alliance forum: Allows the player to access the forum and read and write in it
    • Circular mail: Allows the player to send messages to all members of the alliance
    • hidden forums: Allows access to the hidden parts of the forum
    • Moderator: Gives the user moderator rights for the internal forum in the alliance forum
    • Diplomacy: The player can start and end confederations and edit internal announcements
    • Invitations: Gives a member the right to invite other people into the alliance and withdraw the invitations
    • Alliance leader
    • Board of elders

The following administration options are available:

  • Removing ranks: Deletes an existing rank. However, the last rank with the 'Board of elders' right cannot be deleted. Special rankings can only be deleted when they are not distributed any more.
  • Adding ranks: Creates a new rank. This can be optionally defined.
  • Changing ranks: Can completely change a rank. Any changes made will become effective immediately for all members that have this rank. If a point ranking becomes a special ranking, all members that had the point ranking due to their number of points will also receive the new special ranking.

Diplomacy

Aside from getting members, an alliance must endeavor to form diplomatic relations with other alliances. Thus so-called confederations can be formed. The confederation status of settlements (that have members of an allied alliance) is highlighted on the map. The following confederations are available:

  • Allies (yellow): If an alliance member wants to attack the settlement of an allied alliance, it has to be explicitly confirmed first.
  • Non-aggression pact (NAP) (Orange): If an alliance member wants to attack the settlement of a non-aggression-pact alliance, then it must be explicitly confirmed.
  • Enemies (Red): Enemies do not have a technical impact on the game.

There are the following options for managing them:

  • New alliances can be created. In order to do this, you must enter the tag of the target alliance and the type of confederation. The target alliance does not have to confirm it and will not have confederate from their side. The target alliance will not automatically be informed about the alliance.
  • Existing alliances can simply be terminated.

Manage forum

Alliance members with particular rights can directly manage the alliance from the forum. In addition, the sub forums (files) of the forum can be changed:

  • The name of a sub forum can be changed.
  • Sub forums are usually displayed with the corresponding ('Alliance forum') right, but can also be hidden. Some sub forums can only be accessed by particular members ('Hidden Forums').
  • The order of the sub forums can be changed any way you like. In order to do this, a sub forum is moved up or down.
  • A sub forum can be completely deleted. This means that all the threads in this file will also be deleted.
  • New sub forum can be opened. Its status can be directly specified as hidden.

Administrate forum

Alliance members with the moderator right can moderate alliance forums. They have the following options:

  • Deleting threads
  • Moving threads to another forum
  • Closing and opening threads. All closed threads cannot (apart from moderators) have any new threads added.
